I try to focus on the moment and being what I need to be when I need to be it. I love my job but sometimes I have to step away for a few days in order to catch up with life and I've learned that I am allowed to do that because I'm my own boss! It only took my 6 years in business to realise that!
Vintage shopping is my longest standing interest, it's something I grew up doing and so it comes naturally. I started Bohème as a way to save up for a car and put my sons into soccer and after a year at it, I was able to buy my step mums 99 Volkswagen which was a game changer for me. I was then able to expand where I would source and really grew my brand from there. Last summer I launched my first collection, all made to order here in Canada with each style being based off of a vintage silhouette from my personal collection. One of the most important parts of becoming a designer was ensuring that every 'body' could wear Bohéme. I couldn't imagine my friends not being able to wear my brand because they sized out. Inclusivity and ethical production go hand in hand!
It's an evolution of sorts...of not only your child, but of yourself in so many ways. You think about what you do, what you say, whether your actions are helping a child grow or whether you're hindering their growth. Constantly evolving and learning new ways to show your love is how I would best describe it.
Haha thanks-absolutely!! my body is nothing like it once was and funnily enough I'm more confident and happy in my skin now than I ever was when I was a teenager. I was pregnant at 20 so I didn't have a ton of time spent fussing over my body but I never loved or appreciated it. After having children I'm so aware of what a privilege it is to just have a body that is healthy and allows me to carry them, to run with them and help them.
The women working 2 jobs, going to school, raising children solo, they are the women who's sacrifice sometimes goes unnoticed but I am always amazed and inspired by their strength.
I have a gold signet ring a friend gifted to me a few years ago. It happened to be on Mothers Day and there was a subtle imperfection where it looked like the number 17 was naturally formed. My first born was born on the 17so it just felt like it was meant for me and will always remind me of that.
My husband and I grew up down the street from one another but because he was older than me (and not because I was in marching band and Scottish danced) he never noticed me. He worked at a sub shop and I was madly in love with him, going every week before dance class, but it wasn't until 2009 when I saw him on facebook and asked my friend to see if he was single, that we talked. We haven't stopped talking in 12 years except for when I'm mad at him.
My proudest moment would be running into my mum at the market and seeing her wearing my design.

Empathy & Confidence are key. In order to understand the world, empathy is so important. Confidence comes in where once the connection is made that someone needs help or that my boys need to be brave or stand up for themselves or someone else, that they will be able to do so confidently.
