Monday Masterclass | Q&A With Ruth Bewsey

For this Monday Masterclass, Ruth, Daisy’s Creative Director and go-to jewellery stylist, answered all your burning questions. You asked, we answered. Here’s what she had to say…

“Hello, I’m Ruth and I’m going to answer all of your questions about jewellery! How to care for it, how to style it so, let’s go!”

How to style signet rings please?

I love to wear a signet ring on my little finger. It’s very traditional. Very classic. These guys have had something of a makeover recently, and they’re having a real moment. I’m wearing our Daisy Bloom Signet Ring on my little finger in XS. You could also wear the classic Estée Lalonde Sunburst Signet Ring on your index finger or our Stacked Rope Signet Ring on your middle finger, surrounded by other stacking rings (we’re looking at you, Stacked Rope Ring). If you’re not sure which one’s right for you, take a look at our ring size guides.

What goes better with the Estée Lalonde Sunburst Chain Necklace chain necklace for layering, the Short Flat Snake Chain Necklace or the Long Flat Snake Chain Necklace?

How you wear your jewellery is really down to your personal styling, but this couldn’t be more true than when it comes to choosing between our Long Flat Snake Chain Necklace and the Short Flat Snake Chain Necklace. If you’re looking to style it with the Estée Lalonde Sunburst Chain Necklace, it can be worn between 16 and 18 inches, whilst the short and long Estée Snake Chains are 16 and 18 inches, respectively. So, you could wear the Short Flat Snake Chain Necklace with the Estée Lalonde Sunburst Chain Necklace at 18 inches or if you decided to go for the Long Flat Snake Chain Necklace, wear the Estée Lalonde Sunburst Chain Necklace. Then again, you can always wear them at the same length, for a subtle layered look.

Can I wear my jewellery in the shower?

This is one of our most frequently asked questions and the party line is: no. Ideally, you shouldn’t wear your jewellery in the shower, pool or sea. All of our pieces are made from the highest quality recycled sterling silver, whilst our gold pieces have an 18ct gold plate. Over time, exposure to water and the chemicals in soaps or fragrances can cause this to thin and discolour. So, to ensure your jewellery stays looking as gorgeous as you for as long as possible, we recommend taking them off before bed, in water, and during exercise. For the full low down, take a look at our Jewellery Care Guide. Then again, I’d be lying if I said I took my jewels off every time I jumped in the shower. Our jewellery comes with a six-month warranty as standard and all of our favourite pieces stay gleaming long after then.

Any suggestions for a four piece stack in silver for my right ear?

I love a drop hoop in the first hole, your lobe piercing. So, for a silver ear stack that will get you noticed, what about the Daisy Bloom Drop Earrings in your first hole, the Meryl Huggie Hoop Earrings (get them whilst they’re here—these ones sell out fast!) in your second hole, followed by the Octavia Huggie Hoop Earrings—the perfect everyday earring, and finally, the Dolly Huggie Hoop Earrings: small but perfectly formed, ideal for your fourth piercing. Alternatively you could add a little colour and wear a Healing Huggie Hoops in your second or third hole. And remember, all of these styles look just as gorgeous in gold.

What earrings are best for piercings at the top of your ear?

Another question we get all the time and the answer is, all of our smaller huggies! To make sizing simpler, we’ve just launched our new Earring Size Guide, making it easier to know which ones to wear, where. If we had to pick, for an earring you can put in and never take out, it would have to be the Stacked Huggie Hoops.

What’re your top 3 necklaces for stacking?

Ok, when it comes to layering necklaces I’m going to be totally biased here: it’s got to be chains. The Isla Tidal Twist Necklace is my go-to on a shoot for that extra little extra sparkle. Wear it with the Stacked Linked Chain Necklace for some extra glam and the Estée Lalonde Wavy Snake Chain to mix things up a little. And there you have it: the perfect necklace stack.

How to mix metals?

he age old question, whether to mix or to match your metals. If you’re more of a gold girl, wear it with just a highlight of silver—like the Isla Tidal Twist Necklace. Or, if you’re more of a silver siren, wear the Isla Tidal Twist in gold for a little accent. Read our blog on How To Mix or To Match your gold and silver jewellery for the full scoop.

I need a present for my best friend’s 21st! Which piece has the most meaning?

Oh to be 21 again! For a piece with meaning that any girl would love, it’s got to be the Sisterhood Hoop Earrings. Who doesn’t love a hoop? This pair looks great with any outfit, plus the added sisterhood element makes these the perfect meaningful gift for your sister from another mister.

I’ve got a job interview and I want my jewellery to do the talking with a basic outfit—help!

Repeat after me: “Confidence is the best accessory. Jewellery is the highlight”. That’s right, all you really need is confidence. Be yourself and let your personality shine through. That said, if you want your jewellery to do the talking, go for our Estée Lalonde Octagonal Necklace. You can slide this tactile pendant along its figaro chain, making it quite grounding in stressful situations.

How to style the Estée Lalonde T Bar Necklace?

This baby speaks for herself. Wear the Estée Lalonde T Bar Necklace by herself or style it with our Estée Lalonde Octagonal Necklace for a gorgeous vintage look. For something more subtle, pair it with the Isla Tidal Twist. To raise your layering game a little, add the Stacked Linked Chain Necklace for some chunky chain layering.

What bracelets look best stacked together?

I’m a terrible example, as I basically live in samples! But bracelets are having a real moment right now, so stack them high! To start things off, let’s go with a time-tested favourite, the Estée Lalonde Flat Snake Chain Bracelet. Wear it with the Estée Lalonde Figaro Chain Bracelet, for can’t go wrong styling and the Stacked Linked Chain Bracelet. Add on the barely there Estée Lalonde Forever Chain Bracelet for that final layer of subtle sparkle.

Which rings look best stacked together?

The key to ring stacking? You can either do single rings across multiple fingers or a classic ring stack for multiple rings on three or four fingers. When it comes to stacking, the Estée Lalonde Unity Ring never lets me down. Add a few chain rings to the mix for a bit of lightweight sparkle.
