To quote the immortal words from this infamous Fleabag:
Wedding Hair Trends With Joel Goncalves
“Hair is EVERYTHING. We wish it wasn’t, so that we could actually think about something else for a change, but it is. It’s the difference between a good day and a bad day”.
So, if you want to avoid your hair “looking like a pencil”, then there’s no one better than the one and only, Joel Goncalves.
We first discovered Joel when one of our Daisy girls decided to take the plunge and get a fringe. When you’re making such drastic decisions, you want to make sure your locks are in the right hands. Joel prides himself in helping you find your “hair personality”. He’s billed as the hairdresser in London for looking after longer hair, and his little black book of clients is peppered with everyone from A-listers to fashion editors.
So, with wedding season around the corner, we wanted to get his take on some of his favourite hair trends. Whether you’re a guest or bridesmaid, you always want to try and do something a little different when you’re going to a wedding. Be it your hair or your jewellery, it’s fun to mix it up for the big day. If you’re stuck for ideas for what you can do differently, read on:
Let It Loose
If you’re going to a less formal wedding, why not let your hair down with open, wavy curls. For a bit of texture, Joel recommends using Hair by Sam McKnight’s Cool Girl Texturising Spray. If you’re wearing your hair down, go for a statement jewellery look with these Venus Hoop Earrings. Here we’ve paired them with our Palm Fan Drop Earrings for a bit of old-school glamour and Rose Quartz Healing Huggies.
The Classic Updo
Then again, if the day’s a more formal affair, go smart with a classic updo. “You can still keep things tousled and textured”, says Joel. Add some accessories to your hair with these oversized pearl clips.
Pair your hair with your jewellery and go for an understated silver look. Here we’ve paired the Isla Mother of Pearl Drop Earrings with our Amazonite Healing Huggies and Dolly Huggie Hoop Earrings.
The Headband
Gone are the days when extravagant hats with metre-wide brims were the must-wear wedding trend. These days, wedding guests tend to opt for something a little smaller, understated in the headwear department, like a statement headband. This one is from Lele Sadoughi, and we promise it will guarantee you lots of compliments. Plus, if you’re really struggling with a proverbial ‘bad hair day’, then a good headband will distract from any wayward dos.
Joel’s styled it with an effortless half-up, half-down do, and we’ve paired it with yet more pearls in the form of our classic, Isla Mother of Pearl Drop Earrings (because honestly, pearls and weddings go together like tea and cake). We’ve continued the floral theme from the pattern with a couple of our favourite Bellis Daisy Stud Earrings.
