The Black Makers Edit

Meet Hazel Gardiner

Friend of the brand and quite possibly the cheeriest gal in North London, you might recognise Hazel from our previous Daisy Times edition. Well, we are incredibly excited to finally be selling an HG masterpiece.
Hazel is part of our Black Makers Edit, a curated collection of products from some of our favourite black-owned brands and artisans that we think our customers will love as much as we do. She's designed a beautiful bespoke flower arrangement just for us that can be used as a table centrepiece, or hung with ribbon as a festive decoration to brighten your home.

So how does it work we hear you ask...?

1. When you buy a Hazel Dried Flower Wall Hanging from the Black Makers Edit, 100% of the sale price goes directly to Hazel.

2. Every time an item is sold from the Edit, we donate £5 to our Black Makers Fund. The makers have each selected a charity for this fund to split amongst. Hazel has chosen Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust, a charity working to create a fairer and more inclusive society in which everyone can succeed regardless of race, ethnicity or background via high impact programmes in the built environment, schools & further education, and the community.

3. When you shop, you will also have the option to make an additional donation to the Black Makers Fund.

After a childhood surrounded by nature in south-east England, Hazel had a lifelong preoccupation and awe for the natural world.

"I love to create unexpected visual stories using a mix of dried, silk and fresh. I’m focused on the relationship between colour, texture and depth to create a new narrative."

After a career in television production, Hazel then set up her own vintage retail and event company specialising in 70s - 90s fashion and event production. It was here that she quickly gained a reputation for her unique visual experiences which led to collaborations with the V&A, Tate Galleries and Selfridges.

Encouraged by her gardener mother, and keen to work with flowers, she trained at world-class florist McQueens.

Fast forward a few years, some exceptional installations and a preview on Kirstie’s Homemade Christmas, Hazel can be found working from her home creating pure colourful magic.
